GPFPE grants are for the enhancement of teaching and learning.  For instance, these grants may fund pilot programs or instructional materials and enrichment projects. Some examples are:

  1. Curriculum Initiatives and Supplements
  2. Visiting Speakers
  3. Learning Resources
  4. Research Projects and Pilot Programs
  5. Academic Enrichment
  6. Extracurricular and Co-curricular Projects
  7. Staff Development

Applications for GPFPE grants may be submitted by teachers, administrators, students, parents or community members. Applications supported by the building administrator and the superintendent will be forwarded to the GPFPE Grant Committee.  The committee will review all requests and present the requests to the GPFPE Board for action. This may entail an interview of the applicant.  

If approved by the GPFPE Board, the Board of Education will be requested to accept the funds.

The Grosse Pointe Public Schools Board of Education is an official elected body, elected by registered voters of the district.  As an elected body, the Board of Education must approve and accept all gifts and contributions made to the school system, from the GPFPE or from any other source. Grant applications are due by March 1st and October 1st.

The GPFPE reserves the right to consider and approve grants at other times as exceptional circumstances present themselves. Grants will be evaluated by the grant committee and then forwarded to the GPFPE Board for formal approval. All grants must be accepted by the GPPSS Board of Education to ensure they are in alignment with the district’s strategic plan. Grant funds must be spent within 12 months of grant approval unless good cause is shown to the GPFPE Board or unless the grant is clearly designed for more than one year. Any grant monies not expended by the deadline will revert back to the GPFPE.

The GPFPE may request periodic reports on grant implementation. Within 30 days of project completion, or annually for longer term programs, a written evaluation shall be submitted to the GPFPE. An oral report may also be requested.

The GPFPE is an independent non-profit organization, which makes grants that advance its mission and vision and support the strategic planning priorities of the Grosse Pointe Public School System. The GPFPE is entirely supported by private donations and as such is solely responsible for the administration and policies of its grant making program. We could not accomplish our mission without the support of our community and active volunteers.
